WOW!!!

The giants of the earth and the rather small chickaree

History, humour, issues of our time, passion (and a long-hidden secret brought to light) this book has it all! ..... and that’s just the author’s view.

A book aimed at older children and young adults (from 9 to 99!) It is illustrated by Shirley Hayes plus photographs taken in the High Sierras of California by Adrian Bloom.

“I had a ‘Wow! Wow!! WOW!!!’ moment when my wife Rosemary and I first saw the Redwoods in the North Calaveras Grove in 2000.”

The Chickaree, or Douglas Squirrel, is a character amongst the Big Tree or Giant Redwoods located in the Sierra Nevada, a unique mountain range in eastern California. This is the setting for a revelatory story which has greater impact across the world than most of us might think. In a heartfelt tale between a young boy Greg and his new friend Doug.  The world, present and future, look very uncertain. The “original” Giant Redwoods are very much in the centre of a rapidly changing environment. Can these two beings, Doug (the very small chickaree) and Greg help towards their survival and that of the planet?
